How to:  Slave a printer from a terminal

In order to conserve ports, you may connect a printer to a terminal's "AUXILLARY" port. This frees up a port for other use. By slaving terminals, you can set up a standard 7-user J-CON to support a maximum of 6 screens and 5 printers.

Basics:

1.      Only "Digiboard" ports (KB20 and higher) will support slaved printers. Printers can usually be either serial or parallel, if the terminal supports both

2.      Any workstation can print to printers on other terminals

3.      Slaved printers carry the same number as their host terminal, with a "LP" prefix.  The printer slaved off KB22 becomes LP22:

4.      JCON GT or LX models do not support slaving, only "J40" printers.

Steps:

1.      Enter SETUP on the terminal, set up the AUX port as serial or parallel.  If it's serial, set the AUX Baud rate to match the Primary

2.      Connect the printer to the AUX port on the terminal

3.      Print a report to the LP#.  You may need to change the setup on the printer,  especially if you use the serial connection.

4.      If the printer is to be used for invoices or receipts, you must change the printer                assignments for the workstations (8.15, 1.1)

That’s it. You now have a free port to use for another terminal or printer.
